All Internet browsers allow for the use of extensions, which are small programs that extend the functionality of a browser. This document contains information on how to disable or remove an extension. To proceed, select your Internet browser from the list below and follow the instructions.
Microsoft Edge
How can the answer be improved?
If you are using Microsoft Edge, follow these steps.
- Open the Microsoft Edge browser.
- Select More from the upper-right corner of the screen.
- In the drop-down menu that appears, select Extensions.
- From the list that appears, right-click on the extension you would like to remove, and then select Turn off to disable the extension OR Uninstall to remove it.
Google Chrome
If you are using Google Chrome, follow these steps.
- Open the Google Chrome browser.
- Click the Customize and control Google Chrome icon in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
- In the drop-down menu that appears, select More tools, and then Extensions.
- In the Extensions tab, find the extension that you want to disable or remove.
- To disable the extension, click the toggle switch at the bottom-right of the extension box so that it turns gray. To remove it, click the Remove button.
Firefox
If you are using Firefox, follow these steps.
- Open the Mozilla Firefox browser.
- In the upper-right corner of the browser window, click the Open Menu icon.
- From the drop-down menu that appears, select the Add-ons option.
- In the window that opens, click Extensions in the left menu.
- Locate the extension you're interested in disabling or removing.
- On the right side of the extension, click Disable.
Opera
If you are using Opera, follow these steps.

- Open the Opera browser.
- Click the icon in the upper-left corner.
- Select Extensions, then Extensions again.
- To disable the add-on, click the Disable button.

- To uninstall the add-on, move your mouse to the upper-right corner of the add-on, and an X icon should appear. Click it to remove the add-on.
Internet Explorer
If you are using Internet Explorer, follow these steps.
- Open the Internet Explorer browser.
- Click on the icon and select Manage add-ons.
- In the Manage add-ons window, find the add-on you're interested in removing from the list on the right.
- Select it and click on the Disable button at the bottom right, as shown in the picture below.
To fully remove an add-on, you'll need to find the location where the add-on files were installed and delete them manually. Windows users may also be able to uninstall add-on files through Add/Remove programs.

- Click the Tools icon in the upper-right corner of Internet Explorer. (The icon looks like a gear.)
- In the pop-up menu that appears, click Manage Add-ons.
- In the dialog box that appears, select Toolbars and Extensions.Select Tools and Extensions as the Add-on Types from Manage Add-ons dialog box.
- In the list of Add-ons, look for “Shockwave Flash Object” (another name for Flash Player).In the Status column, check to see whether Shockwave Flash Object is Disabled. If it is disabled, click the row for Shockwave Flash Object to highlight it.Shockwave Flash Object as the Add-on Type. The Flash is in Disabled status.
- In the lower-right corner of the Manage Add-ons dialog box, click Enable.
